About the
Book
"...the
material is wonderful. I have had an enormous amount of
guilt over my father’s death and what I could not/did not do
for him. Your words have helped and I know that there
will not be a repeat with my mother and the rest of us, when
it is our sunset. Thanks." ...Stephen S., Reader from South

guide book to help a person or family understand, accept and work through
the dying process. The goal is to lay the groundwork for a peaceful and
comfortable passing, rather than a chaotic or painful death. The style is
honest and easy to understand. Originally the book was sold as an
electronic book in 2003 and 2004. Many lay readers provded feedback and
qusetions which were then incorporated into the text for the print
version. The audio version was produced in late 2004 and edition one of
the print version was released on February 22, 2005. The authors will take the reader through
all areas of the dying process, including recognition, acceptance, medical
and legal concerns, living wills and other documents, financial planning,
nutrition and fluids, use of hospice and other services, pain control
and hygeine concerns, working with health care providers, as well as guilt
and grief management. The paperback book
version is 219 pages in length. In addition to the authors'
views, there is a financial planning chapter, and multiple places for
taking notes and recording information about a person who might be
receiveing end-of-life care. Therefore the print version is literally
designed to be the focal point of your planning. The audio version is a
set of 9 audio CD's that can be played in any standard CD player or a
computer with a CD drive and speakers. The authors recorded their
contributions to the work and the listeners will feel as though are part
of a meeting with the authors. This audio version serves as the
ideal focus for family meetings as the family begins to plan for
end-of-life care. It will bring the group together 'on the same
page' and help to start conversations which are neccessary but difficult
to begin. Imagine sitting down with your family and having
experienced professionals lead you through the complex web of issues that
arise during end-of life care. The ebook version is
the text of the actual book in electronic format. It can be
downloaded immediately. It can then be printed or read on the
screen.

personal book. More than that, it is a gift from the hearts and minds of
two authors who respect each other, as they alternate in sharing their
experiences and knowledge about all the areas of the dying process. Never
haughty or condescending, this book is a must read to reduce your fears,
to understand your options, and to put your individual experience in
context of what others have gone through. It offers a practical approach
-- the five principles -- and illustrates its main points by stories of
patients told from these professionals' perspective. In addition it offers
a pragmatic chapter on financial planning and an honest discussion of
sharing of responsibility and stewardship of resources. That section
ends with six provocative questions and the suggestion that readers
discuss them with their families. Even one page, # 207, "Sample
Orders" is so helpful that it is worth the price of the
book. ...Stanley A.
