"We are distributing the book through our Palliative Care program and Ethics Committee and are looking into wider, more general distribution for patients and families. It is an excellent resource with clear information, conversational tone and with a holistic approach rarely encountered, but desparately needed, in today's society and healthcare world. It is a comprehensive approach to help ease the fear, mystery and misunderstandings of this most important topic of death and dying. We look forward to utilizing this book, supporting website and consultations to further our compassionate, quality care of the dying and their families."

"I have known the authors for years and was pleased to know that they had written this much needed work. After reading it, I began providing copies to my patients touched by end-of-life issues. The feedback has been tremendous. My patients appreciate the gesture from my practice, as well as the actual content of the book. It has fostered improvement in the doctor-patient relationship, and made it easier for me to help them through difficult times. As a Family Physician, I could not ask for a better resource."

....David Albenberg, MD   Board-Certified Family Physician

The mission of this project is to serve anyone and everyone in need of straightforward advice on end-of-life care and dying itself. We are also committed to serving those who care for the dying, which in turn benefits the recipient of that care. The authors know how frustrating it can be for the healthcare professional to want to explain the dying process to patients and families, but not have the time to do so as fully as they would like. We are also aware of how exhausting it can be for the healthcare professional to repeat the same information many times per day.

It is also unfortunate when time that could be spent directly attending to the patient's needs is lost while the professional tries to explain basic issues in end-of-life care, often during hurried office visits. Would it not be a real boon to help the patients and families gain basic understanding and acceptance of the process by doing reading prior to the encounter with the medical system?  Imagine saying to the client, "End-of-life issues are complex and require time to understand. Here is a book (or audio recording) for you and your family to explore between now and our next meeting. It will really help your discussions and will help us to be on the same page". Dr. Davis, the physician and co-author, has long wanted such a resource for his own practice and that is one reason why he chose to spearhead this project.

We are beginning to work with organizations who see this book as a useful tool to help them with their missions, and we could not be more pleased.  When the print and audio versions arrive soon, various hospitals, hospices, nursing homes and palliative care advocacy groups want to either sell the book to their clients at a discounted rate or simply give it to their clients.  They are realizing that if the client is more informed early in the process, then everyone wins and less effort is wasted during critical times.  The physican can proceed with writing orders and signing documents. The hospice nurse can enact the care plan.

We are in full support of such efforts and are eager to partner with any organization (from doctors' offices to hospital systems) doing this vital and merciful work.  We will offer very deep discounts (below wholesale) on volume orders to such organizations who declare that they plan to offer the book to their client for a reduced fee. We will offer even deeper volume discounts to any organization declaring that they will provide the book free to their clients.  We can supply you with a copy of the text. We are open to woking with organizations to adapt the project to your particular needs.

To become involved in this program, simply send an e-mail to info@atthecloseofday.com .  Please paste the following questions onto the e-mail with your particular responses and we will get back to you with options and quotes.

1) What is the name of your organization, contact person/info, size, mission statement and approximate number of clients?

2) Can you provide a rough estimate of the number of books and/or audio versions you may need and how often?

3) Do you plan to resell the text or give it to your clients?

4) How do you see this resource integrating into your overall mission?

We look forward to hearing from you!
